Contemporary Approaches in Orthopedic and Orthodontic Care: Emerging Technologies, Clinical Outcomes, and Personalized Treatment Strategies

Abstract

Background: Orthopedic and orthodontic care have traditionally relied on generalized diagnostic criteria and standardized protocols, limiting precision and long-term efficacy. 
Objective: This review synthesizes evidence on emerging technologies transforming orthopedic and orthodontic practice, emphasizing digital diagnostics, robotics, additive manufacturing, and personalized treatment planning. 
Methods: A structured narrative review of peer-reviewed literature published mainly between 2020 and 2026 was conducted using PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, ScienceDirect, and Google Scholar, focusing on artificial intelligence, robotic surgery, three-dimensional printing, digital imaging, regenerative medicine, and clinical outcomes. 
Results: Advanced imaging and artificial intelligence algorithms improve diagnostic accuracy and reduce interpretation time across fracture detection, cephalometric analysis, and malocclusion classification. Robotic-assisted orthopedic surgery and computer-guided navigation enhance implant alignment precision, while three-dimensional printing enables patient-specific implants, surgical guides, and orthodontic appliances. Clear aligner therapy and digital orthodontic workflows improve treatment visualization, though evidence for complex malocclusions remains limited. Regenerative approaches, including scaffold-based bone regeneration and stem cell therapies, show translational promise but require further validation. 
Conclusion: Contemporary orthopedic and orthodontic care increasingly integrates digital technologies, robotics, and personalized planning, offering measurable improvements in precision and patient-centered outcomes. However, heterogeneous evidence quality, regulatory considerations, and cost barriers necessitate continued rigorous clinical investigation before widespread standardization.
